Every time I have left a job it felt like breaking up with a romantic partner. It doesn’t change when you’re the manager; it’s actually harder. You’re the one who is still there and has to push forward and look to the future while the employee gets to go home and look for a new job and mess around online in the meantime. They get to say horrible things about you with their friends and have a grieving process.
